The Caribbean's premier gaming destination — Atlantis's iconic landmark and Baha Mar's luxury complex

The Bahamas is the closest major Caribbean destination to the United States — Nassau is just 1 hour by air from Miami. The casino scene is dominated by two landmark resort complexes: Atlantis Paradise Island (on Paradise Island, across the Nassau Harbour Bridge) and Baha Mar (Cable Beach area of Nassau). The legal gambling age in the Bahamas is 18. Note that Bahamian nationals are legally prohibited from gambling in casinos.

Atlantis Paradise Island

Atlantis Paradise Island is one of the most recognised resort complexes in the Caribbean — a massive water park (Aquaventure), marine habitat, casino, multiple hotels (The Royal, The Cove, The Coral, Harborside Resort), golf course, and extensive dining make it a destination in its own right. The casino is a large, busy facility catering to the high volume of visitors from the US and Canada. Atlantis is on Paradise Island, connected to Nassau by two bridges.

Baha Mar Nassau

Baha Mar is a newer luxury resort complex (opened 2017–2018) on Cable Beach, Nassau — comprising three hotel brands (SLS Baha Mar, Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, Rosewood Baha Mar) linked by a shared casino, convention centre, golf course, Beach Club, and retail mall. The casino at Baha Mar is contemporary and well-designed, positioning the complex at the higher end of the Nassau market. Baha Mar is on the Nassau island itself, 10 minutes from the cruise port and downtown.

Nassau and Out Islands

Nassau's downtown has the British Colonial Hilton, straw market, fish market, and the historic forts (Fort Charlotte, Fort Montagu). The Exumas (day trip by charter plane or ferry) are famous for swimming pigs on Pig Beach and crystal-clear water. Eleuthera (Pink Sands Beach — privately voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world), Harbour Island, and Abaco offer quieter Out Island experiences.

Aquaventure

Aquaventure water park at Atlantis is open to hotel guests and to day pass purchasers. The Leap of Faith slide (nearly vertical plunge through a shark-filled lagoon) is the signature attraction. Non-guests pay a day-pass fee; hotel guests have unlimited access.

Casino Choice

Baha Mar's casino is generally considered more upscale and less crowded than the Atlantis casino, which sees very high footfall from multiple hotel towers and cruise day-visitors. For poker and table game focus, Baha Mar's lower volumes can be preferable.

Getting to Nassau

Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) in Nassau is 1 hour from Miami, 3 hours from New York, 3.5 hours from Toronto. Many major US and Canadian carriers operate direct flights. The airport is approximately 15 minutes from Cable Beach (Baha Mar) and 30 minutes from Paradise Island (Atlantis).

Exuma Day Trip

A day trip to the Exumas — featuring the famous swimming pigs at Big Major Cay — requires a charter boat or seaplane from Nassau (approximately 1 hour). Multiple tour operators in Nassau offer all-inclusive Exuma day trips.

Currency

The Bahamian Dollar is pegged 1:1 to the US Dollar — USD is accepted everywhere in the Bahamas. No currency exchange is necessary for US visitors.

Bahamian Nationals

By Bahamian law, Bahamian nationals are not permitted to gamble in the casinos. This law applies to citizens and permanent residents; foreign visitors face no restriction beyond the minimum age of 18.
