Monte Carlo Entertainment Districts

Monte Carlo · Monaco

Monaco's compact 2km² footprint means its entertainment 'districts' are more like distinct squares and neighbourhoods — Casino Square, Port Hercule, and Fontvieille each have their own character.

Casino Square (Place du Casino)

The Place du Casino is Monaco's centrepiece — the Casino de Monte-Carlo and Casino Café de Paris face each other across the square, with the Hotel de Paris on one side and the Café de Paris on the other. The square itself is lined with exotic cars, particularly during F1 week. Surrounding streets have luxury boutiques, restaurants, and the most prestigious addresses in the Principality.

Port Hercule

Monaco's main harbour is one of the world's most glamorous — particularly during the Monaco Grand Prix, when the pit lane runs through the port area and multi-deck superyachts fill every berth. Year-round, the portside cafés and restaurants are popular, and boat excursions depart from here along the Côte d'Azur.

The Exotic Garden District

The Jardin Exotique neighbourhood in the western part of Monaco houses the Jardin Exotique (remarkable cactus and succulent garden with panoramic views), the Grotte de l'Observatoire prehistoric cave, and the Musée d'Anthropologie Préhistorique. This area is more cultural than entertainment-focused but offers a very different Monaco from the casino quarter.

Visitor Tips

  • Walk Casino Square at night — the illuminated Casino de Monte-Carlo is one of Europe's most beautiful buildings.
  • Port Hercule's best restaurants fill quickly — reservations recommended year-round.
  • The Monaco Grand Prix transforms the port area into the world's most spectacular F1 venue in late May.
