Getting to the Casino

Metro Yellow Line to Jean-Drapeau station, then a 15-minute walk or seasonal shuttle bus across Île Notre-Dame to the casino. The island also contains Circuit Gilles Villeneuve (Formula 1 track) and the Parc Jean-Drapeau beaches.

Poutine

Poutine (French fries, cheese curds, brown gravy) originated in Quebec and is best in Montréal — La Banquise (open 24 hours, multiple varieties) and Décarie Hot Dog are institutions. Many upscale restaurants now do elevated poutine versions.

Summer Festivals

Montréal's festival calendar is extraordinary — Jazz Festival (late June/early July, free outdoor stages), Just for Laughs (July), Osheaga at Parc Jean-Drapeau (August), and dozens of neighbourhood festivals. Most have free components. Book hotels 4–6 months ahead for Jazz Festival.

Old Montréal

Vieux-Montréal has Basilique Notre-Dame (book interior visits — the light show is optional but worthwhile), the Marché Bonsecours (historic market hall), Old Port (riverfront, cycling, ice rink in winter), and dozens of excellent restaurants. The cobblestone streets are best explored on foot.

Winter Montreal

Montréal winters are genuinely cold (-15 to -25°C possible in January–February). The underground city (RÉSO — 32km of tunnels connecting Metro stations, shopping malls, and hotels) is an authentic Montréal winter experience. Igloofest (outdoor electronic music festival, January) and the Fête des Neiges winter festival are embraced locally.

Dining Scene

Montréal is a world-class restaurant city — the highest restaurant-to-resident ratio of any North American city. The Plateau, Mile End (Montreal Bagel culture — St-Viateur or Fairmount bagels), Old Montréal, and Outremont are the best dining neighbourhoods. Reservations at Joe Beef, Au Pied de Cochon, and Toqué are planned weeks ahead.
