The world's most famous waterfall — Fallsview Casino Resort with iconic falls views, and Seneca Niagara across the border

Niagara Falls is one of the world's most visited natural wonders — the Horseshoe Falls (Canadian side, Ontario) is the largest of the three falls by volume. The casino scene straddles the US–Canada border: Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara operate on the Ontario side; Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino on the New York side. The minimum gambling age is 19 in Ontario (Canada) and 21 in New York (USA).

Details

Fallsview Casino Resort

Fallsview Casino Resort (OLG — Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, operated by Niagara Casinos) is Canada's largest casino resort — 200+ table games, 3,000+ slot machines, a hotel tower with direct views of the Horseshoe Falls, multiple restaurants, and the Avalon Theatre for headline entertainment. Its name derives from its position directly above the Niagara Gorge with views across to the falls — the best falls-view accommodation of any of the Niagara casino hotels.

Casino Niagara and Seneca Niagara

Casino Niagara is the older of the two Ontario properties — a more compact operation on Fallsview Boulevard, serving as a lower-cost alternative to the Fallsview resort. Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino (Seneca Nation of Indians) on the New York side in Niagara Falls, NY offers a large gaming floor, hotel tower, and entertainment. It is accessible from the Ontario side via the Rainbow Bridge (international crossing — passport required).

The Falls Experience

Horseshoe Falls (Canada side) is the most powerful and visually impressive of the three falls — 57 metres high and 790 metres wide, with approximately 2,400 cubic metres of water per second flowing over. Journey Behind the Falls, Niagara City Cruises (formerly Maid of the Mist, operated from both sides), and the Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory are the primary attractions. The Niagara Parkway on the Canadian side is a 56km scenic drive. Fireworks over the falls operate nightly in summer.

Visitor Guide — Niagara Falls

See the Falls First

The Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side are the most dramatic — position yourself at the Table Rock viewing platform (free, 24 hours) for the closest legal view of the crest. The Journey Behind the Falls tunnels take you within metres of the falling water.

Fallsview Hotel

Book a falls-view room at Fallsview Casino Resort for the most dramatic morning view — the falls are directly visible from rooms facing north. Weekend bookings fill months ahead in summer.

Border Crossing

The Rainbow Bridge connects Niagara Falls, Ontario to Niagara Falls, New York — passport or NEXUS required for crossing. Vehicle queues can be 30–60 minutes in peak periods; pedestrians cross much faster. The Seneca Niagara casino is a short walk from the US side of the bridge.

Fireworks

Nightly fireworks over the falls operate at 10pm during summer (typically mid-May to mid-October) from the Canadian side. Queen Victoria Park is a prime viewing location. The falls are also illuminated in colours nightly year-round.

Winter Visit

Niagara Falls in winter (November–February) is underrated — dramatically lit falls with less crowding, lower hotel rates, and the Winter Festival of Lights (mid-November to mid-January). The Niagara Parkway can ice over — drive carefully.

Niagara Wine Region

The Niagara Peninsula (Ontario side) is Canada's most important wine region — ice wine is the signature product. Inniskillin, Jackson-Triggs, and dozens of other wineries are 30–45 minutes drive from the falls along the Niagara Escarpment.

Frequently Asked Questions — Niagara Falls

What is the gambling age at Niagara Falls casinos?

At Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara (Ontario side), the minimum gambling age is 19. At Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino (New York side), the minimum age is 21 under New York state law.

What is the best casino at Niagara Falls?

Fallsview Casino Resort is generally considered the premier property — the largest gaming floor on the Canadian side, falls-view hotel rooms, and the Avalon Theatre for entertainment. Casino Niagara is a more compact, lower-cost alternative.

Do I need a passport to cross the Rainbow Bridge?

Yes. The Rainbow Bridge is an international crossing between Canada and the US — a valid passport, passport card, or NEXUS card is required for both Canadian and US border crossings. Driver's licences alone are insufficient.

Which side of Niagara Falls is better to visit?

The Ontario (Canadian) side is generally considered superior for falls viewing — the Horseshoe Falls is the most dramatic of the three, and the Niagara Parkway/Queen Victoria Park viewing platform provides excellent unobstructed views. The New York side has different (closer) views of the American Falls.
