Nightclubs in New Haven

BAR is New Haven's most beloved brewpub and music venue — a downtown brewery producing outstanding craft beers alongside a brick-oven pizza restaurant and live music stage. New Haven's extraordinary combination of Yale's intellectual culture, a diverse working-class community, and one of the most active indie music scenes in the Northeast creates a nightclub market of unusual depth and sophistication.

Firehouse 12 is New Haven's most sophisticated jazz listening room — an intimate 50-seat venue and recording studio presenting the world's finest jazz musicians in the most carefully curated listening environment in Connecticut. New Haven's extraordinary connection to the American jazz tradition (Yale's School of Music and the New Haven jazz community have produced significant jazz talent) creates a jazz listening culture of unusual depth.

Toad's Place is Connecticut's most storied rock club — a New Haven institution where the Rolling Stones played their first US club show (1989 warm-up for Steel Wheels) and where the Yale and wider New Haven community has found live music for over 40 years. New Haven's extraordinary musical history (the birthplace of the Talking Heads who formed here at RISD/Yale) and its vibrant current music scene find one of their most important venues in Toad's enduring commitment to live music.
