Horse Racing in Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) is one of the world's largest sports organisations and operates horse racing, football betting, and a racing lottery under its statutory mandate. All HKJC profits after expenses go to charitable and community projects — making it Hong Kong's largest single charity contributor. The racing programme runs from September through July across Sha Tin and Happy Valley, with Wednesday night racing at Happy Valley drawing tens of thousands of spectators each week.

The HKJC International Races at Sha Tin each December — the Hong Kong Cup, Mile, Sprint, and Vase — are among the world's most prestigious Group 1 races, attracting champions from Europe, Australia, Japan, and beyond for prize money exceeding HK$100 million. Hong Kong horses like Golden Sixty (26 consecutive wins), Romantic Warrior, and Beauty Generation have achieved global recognition. The city's racing is technically elite: the HKJC's handicapping system is regarded as one of the most precise in the world.
