Hipódromo El Meadows in Medellín is Colombia's second-most significant thoroughbred venue, operating at approximately 1,500 metres above sea level — lower than Bogotá and consequently producing faster racing times that provide a useful comparison point for assessing the relative quality of the Colombian programme. Medellín's racing, administered by the Jockey Club de Medellín, operates primarily on weekends and attracts the best horses from the Antioquia region alongside challengers from the Bogotá programme for the major national meetings. The track's turf surface is maintained in excellent condition through the city's reliable rainfall pattern, and the Medellín climate is considered ideal for year-round racing.
