About Ippodromo Capannelle
Ippodromo Capannelle in Rome is the home of the Derby Italiano — Italy's Classic race for three-year-old thoroughbreds and one of Europe's oldest Classics, run over 2,400m on the right-handed turf circuit. The track, situated on the ancient Appian Way on the outskirts of Rome, also hosts the Premio Roma (Group 2), the Oaks d'Italia, and the Gran Criterium. The track's location — bounded by ancient Roman aqueducts and parkland — gives Capannelle a setting unmatched in European racing for historical resonance. The spring meeting, featuring the Derby in mid-May, is the centrepiece of the Italian flat racing season.
