About Jockey Club Brasileiro

The Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro's Gávea neighbourhood — nestled between the Tijuca Forest and the Atlantic coast — is one of the most spectacularly located racecourses in the world. Founded in 1868, it hosts the Grande Prêmio Brasil (Brazil's most prestigious race, 2,400m on turf) and the Grande Prêmio Presidente da República. The track operates year-round on its right-handed turf circuit and features occasional all-weather racing on the inner dirt track. Brazilian racing is anchored by thoroughbreds bred from imported North American and European bloodlines, and the Jockey Club Brasileiro's breeding programme has produced horses that have competed internationally in Group 1 races in Europe.
