Kincsem Park

Kincsem Park in the Albertifalva district of Budapest is Hungary's most important horse racing venue — a dual-code facility hosting both thoroughbred flat racing and harness (trotting) racing, named in honour of Kincsem, the most extraordinary horse in Hungarian history and one of the greatest racehorses in any country across any era. Kincsem (meaning 'my treasure' in Hungarian) was a chestnut mare bred at the Kis-Tétény stud, who won all 54 of her races between 1876 and 1879 — a feat that includes victories in Austria, Germany, France, and England (the Goodwood Cup), making her both the most prolific winning horse in thoroughbred history by career record and Hungary's most celebrated sporting symbol. The modern Kincsem Park facility, located approximately 10km from central Budapest, operates the Hungarian Classic programme (Hungarian Derby, Hungarian Oaks, Hungarian 2000 Guineas) on its turf course alongside a busy harness racing programme on its sand oval. Hungary's racing programme is administered by the Magyar Lóversenyzők Szövetsége (Hungarian Horse Racing Federation), which oversees approximately 60 race days per year concentrated at Kincsem Park and several regional tracks. The venue also incorporates the Kincsem Racing Museum, which documents the history of Hungarian racing and the life of the legendary mare who defines the country's horse racing heritage.
