Øvrevoll Galoppbane, situated in the forested hills west of Oslo, is Norway's only significant thoroughbred flat racing venue and the home of Norwegian racing's Classic calendar — the Norwegian Derby (held in June), the Norwegian 2,000 Guineas, and the Norwegian St Leger. The right-handed turf circuit is known for its scenic setting among the Norwegian forests and the intimacy of its racing atmosphere, drawing a dedicated core of Norwegian racing enthusiasts despite competing for entertainment attention with the country's dominant trotting culture. Norwegian flat racing is administered by Det Norske Jockeyklub and benefits from a dedicated breeding programme that imports bloodlines primarily from Ireland, the UK, and Scandinavia.
