Šamorín-Čilistov Racecourse

The Šamorín-Čilistov Racecourse is located in the Šamorín district of western Slovakia, in the Žitný Ostrov (Rye Island) — a large river island between two branches of the Danube near the Hungarian border, one of Central Europe's most fertile agricultural regions with a significant Hungarian-speaking minority community. The regional track reflects the agricultural character of the Žitný Ostrov area, where horse-rearing has been central to the farming economy for centuries and the Magyar/Hungarian equestrian tradition has been preserved through the region's bilingual community. The facility operates primarily standardbred harness racing — reflecting the dominant character of the regional Danubian racing tradition — with occasional thoroughbred flat meetings during the summer season. The track plays an important developmental role for horses working toward the Závodisko Bratislava main programme, providing a regional competition venue that bridges the Slovak and Hungarian provincial racing circuits. The proximity to Hungary (approximately 25 kilometres from the Hungarian border and roughly 60 kilometres from Győr and its racing facilities) creates natural cross-border horse movement, and Hungarian-registered horses regularly appear in the Šamorín-Čilistov harness programme.
