Santa Rosa Park

Santa Rosa Park in Arima, Trinidad is the national thoroughbred racing venue for Trinidad and Tobago and one of the Caribbean's most historically significant tracks, having operated from the town of Arima (approximately 25 kilometres east of Port of Spain) since the 1930s under the governance of the Trinidad and Tobago Racing Authority (TTRA). The track is named after Santa Rosa de Lima, the patron saint of Arima, and the venue has deep roots in Trinidadian community life — the races at Santa Rosa Park are a central element of Trinidad's sporting culture alongside cricket and football. Trinidad's racing tradition reflects the island's British colonial heritage (the Classic programme mirrors the English structure) combined with a Caribbean pragmatism about what works in a tropical climate: the racing surface at Santa Rosa Park is a combination of turf and prepared dirt sections, with the condition varying significantly between the dry season (January-May) and the wet season (June-December). Trinidad and Tobago's membership of the Clásico del Caribe places Santa Rosa Park in a regional championship context, and the country has hosted the Caribbean championship at Arima on multiple occasions, attracting horses from Venezuela, Colombia, Jamaica, Panama, and the Dominican Republic for what is typically the track's most significant international meeting.
