Służewiec Racecourse

Służewiec Racecourse in Warsaw is Poland's most important horse racing venue and one of Central Europe's most historic thoroughbred facilities. Established in the 1930s and rebuilt after wartime destruction, the left-handed turf oval in Warsaw's Mokotów district has hosted the Polish Derby, Polish Oaks, and Polish 2000 Guineas for decades, defining the country's thoroughbred Classic hierarchy. The Polish Derby — run over 2,400m in June on the best three-year-olds of the Polish breeding season — is the country's most prestigious sporting race for horse and jockey, equivalent in national significance to the Epsom Derby in the UK. Poland's thoroughbred breeding programme, based on state-established stud farms from the Communist era that were subsequently privatised, maintains a productive national bloodstock industry with connections to German, Czech, and occasionally French breeding lines. Służewiec's facility includes a modern grandstand, an all-weather training track, and stabling for approximately 400 horses — serving as both the racing and training centre for Warsaw's substantial horse population.
