Mini Baccarat is a smaller-scale version of standard baccarat, played at a table similar in size to a blackjack table. The rules are identical to the main baccarat game — only the table format and pace differ. Mini Baccarat typically offers lower minimum bets, making it accessible to a wider range of players without the formal atmosphere of a traditional baccarat pit.
The Core Rules (Identical to Standard Baccarat)
- Two hands are dealt: the "Player" hand and the "Banker" hand.
- Cards are scored with 10s and face cards worth zero, Aces worth 1, and number cards worth face value. Hand totals that exceed 9 use only the second digit (e.g., 8 + 7 = 15, counted as 5).
- A natural — a total of 8 or 9 on the first two cards — ends the round immediately with no further cards drawn.
- Third-card drawing rules are fixed and applied automatically by the dealer.
- Betting options: Player (pays 1:1), Banker (pays 1:1 minus 5% commission), or Tie (typically pays 8:1 at a higher house edge).
How Mini Baccarat Differs from Standard Baccarat
- Table size — A compact, single-section table rather than the large oval found in dedicated baccarat pits.
- Single dealer — In standard baccarat, multiple dealers manage the table. In Mini Baccarat, one dealer handles all dealing, drawing, and payouts.
- No player-dealt cards — In some forms of standard baccarat, players handle the cards. In Mini Baccarat, only the dealer touches the cards at all times.
- Pace — Mini Baccarat moves faster than standard baccarat due to the streamlined format and single-dealer operation.
- Atmosphere — Standard baccarat pits often carry a formal, high-stakes atmosphere. Mini Baccarat is more relaxed and accessible to casual players.
Side Bets
Many Mini Baccarat tables offer optional side bets such as Dragon Bonus, Pairs, or Tiger bets. These pay for specific outcomes — such as a Player or Banker pair on the opening two cards — and are independent of the main game result. Side bets carry substantially higher house edges than the three main betting options. They are entirely optional.
