Club Hípico de Santiago

The Club Hípico de Santiago, founded in 1869, is one of the oldest continuously operating thoroughbred racecourses in South America. Located within Santiago's Parque Club Hípico, the track's Victorian-era grandstand and tree-lined surroundings give it a character unlike any other racing venue in the Southern Hemisphere. The El Derby — Chile's most prestigious Classic, run over 2,400m in November — is one of the most anticipated sporting events in Chile and attracts the country's best three-year-olds in a competition that determines the champion of the Chilean Classic generation. The Club Hípico also hosts the El Clásico de los Campeones and several internationally recognised races that have attracted Argentine and Brazilian raiders in recent years. Chilean racing is administered by the Club Hípico and operates under the oversight of Chile's Junta Nacional de Hipismo.
