Klampenborg — Scandinavia's Most Beautiful Track

Set within the Dyrehaven (Deer Park) forest reserve north of Copenhagen, Klampenborg Racecourse is the most beautifully situated racecourse in Northern Europe. The Danish Derby has been run here since 1910, making it Scandinavia's most prestigious flat racing Classic.

Danish Racing: The Scandinavian Connection

Danish racing is administered by Dansk Galop, which operates approximately 40 race days per year across Klampenborg and Charlottenlund. The Scandinavian Open Championship at Klampenborg brings together the best horses from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Germany.

Danish Horse Racing Overview

Denmark's thoroughbred racing programme is modest by Western European standards but maintains a genuine national following and a competitive Classic series. The Danish breeding industry, while small, has produced horses that have competed at international level in Germany and Sweden.

The Danish Classic season runs from May through September, centred on Klampenborg's Derbybanen. The Danish Derby (late June, 2,400m) is the centrepiece, with the Danish 2000 Guineas (May), Danish St Leger (September), and the Scandinavian Open Championship (summer) completing the programme's major events.

For international bettors, Danish racing is primarily of interest during the Scandinavian Open Championship — a Group race with cross-border participation that provides a genuine international form reference for Scandinavian horses. Betfair Exchange lists Danish Group races during the summer programme.
