Klampenborg Racecourse

Klampenborg Racecourse — known in Danish as Galopbanen på Klampenborg or Derbybanen — is Denmark's most prestigious thoroughbred racing venue and one of the most beautifully situated racecourses in Northern Europe. Set within the Dyrehaven (Deer Park) forest reserve north of Copenhagen, adjacent to the Øresund Sound coast, Klampenborg combines a classic European turf oval with a setting of extraordinary natural beauty — the forest backdrop and coastal proximity create a racing environment unlike any other in Scandinavia. The track has hosted the Danish Derby since 1910, and the race — run over 2,400m in late June on Denmark's finest three-year-olds — is the centrepiece of the Scandinavian flat racing season. Danish racing is administered by the Dansk Galop organisation, which oversees a programme of approximately 40 race days per year concentrated at Klampenborg and a handful of regional tracks. The Danish thoroughbred breeding industry, while modest by European standards, has produced several horses that competed internationally in the German and Swedish racing programmes.
