About Caesars New Orleans
Overview
Caesars New Orleans (formerly Harrah's New Orleans) is Louisiana's only land-based commercial casino — all other commercial gaming in the state must be conducted on riverboats or at licensed tracks. The casino opened in October 1999 after years of legal and financial challenges that nearly derailed the project entirely. Today operated by Caesars Entertainment and rebranded from Harrah's in October 2021, the property anchors the Canal Street entertainment district at the edge of the French Quarter.
The land-based license is a unique privilege — Caesars New Orleans holds the only permit for a non-riverboat commercial casino floor in Louisiana, a distinction that dates to a 1990s legislative compromise that authorized one downtown New Orleans land casino as part of the riverboat gaming legislation.
Gaming
Over 100,000 sq ft of gaming space features 1,600+ slot machines and 85+ live table games. The casino operates 24 hours and benefits from the approximately 10 million tourists who visit New Orleans annually. The Caesars Rewards loyalty program is one of the most widely used casino programs in the world.
Hotel & Dining
The adjacent hotel tower provides luxury accommodations. Nobu Restaurant New Orleans, Gordon Ramsay's Fish & Chips, and multiple other dining concepts operate within the complex. The casino's Canal Street location places it within walking distance of the French Quarter, Bourbon Street, the Warehouse District, and the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
Getting There
Located at 8 Canal St, New Orleans, LA 70130 — at Canal Street and the Mississippi River, adjacent to the Harrah's Canal Place hotel. French Quarter walking distance. Self-parking and valet available.
