Casino de Monte-Carlo

Few buildings in the world carry as much cultural weight as the Casino de Monte-Carlo. Designed by Charles Garnier — the same architect responsible for the Paris Opéra — and opened in 1863, it has been the backdrop for countless James Bond scenes, historical events, and the aspirations of gamblers from every nation on earth.

The casino is owned and operated by the Société des Bains de Mer (SBM), the Principality's quasi-public gaming conglomerate that also runs four hotels (including the iconic Hôtel de Paris), multiple restaurants, and the Monte-Carlo Beach Club. Monégasque nationals are legally prohibited from entering the gaming rooms, making the casino an institution dedicated entirely to visitors.

The interior is extraordinary: ornate frescoes, stained glass, gilded ceilings, and polished marble create an atmosphere of theatrical extravagance. The European Rooms offer roulette, trente-et-quarante, and chemin-de-fer (a form of baccarat) in a traditional style, while the Salle Europe features modern table games. High-stakes rooms and salons privés accommodate ultra-high-net-worth players. The minimum age is 18 and a passport or ID is required for entry.
