Casino Helsinki

Casino Helsinki is Finland's sole licensed casino, a monopoly position granted by the Finnish government to RAY (now Veikkaus) in 1991. The casino's uniqueness — one casino for a country of 5.5 million people — makes it something of a national institution, drawing visitors from across Finland who make a pilgrimage to Helsinki partly for the casino experience that is unavailable anywhere else in the country.

The casino occupies a purpose-built waterfront building on the South Harbour in central Helsinki, offering panoramic views over the Baltic Sea and the ferry terminals that connect the city to Tallinn, Stockholm, and St. Petersburg. The gaming floor features roulette (French and American), blackjack, poker, punto banco, baccarat, and approximately 300 slot machines. The poker room is one of Scandinavia's most active, regularly hosting Scandinavian Poker Tour (SPT) events.

Helsinki's position as a gateway between Western Europe and the former Soviet states historically brought a cosmopolitan mix of visitors to the casino, and it continues to attract a notably international clientele. Veikkaus uses a portion of casino revenue to fund Finnish arts, sport, and science through its mandatory social benefit distribution mechanism.
