Cocopah Casino & Hotel is operated by the Cocopah Indian Tribe on the Cocopah Reservation in Somerton, Arizona, near Yuma in the far southwestern corner of the state. The Cocopah — whose name means "those who live on the river" — are one of the Yuman-speaking peoples of the lower Colorado River, with a history deeply tied to the land and waterways at the confluence of the Colorado and Gila rivers. The casino provides an important source of tribal economic development for the Cocopah community while serving Yuma-area residents and cross-border visitors.
