About Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort & Casino
Overview
Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort & Casino is operated by the Mescalero Apache Tribe and occupies one of the most dramatically beautiful resort settings in the entire American Southwest — on the shore of Lake Mescalero, surrounded by the Sacramento Mountains near Ruidoso. The phrase "Inn of the Mountain Gods" is not simply marketing language but a reflection of the deep spiritual significance the Mescalero Apache traditionally place on this mountain landscape.
The Mescalero Apache Tribe's resort complex also includes nearby Ski Apache (one of the southernmost ski resorts in the United States) and Ruidoso Downs racetrack, making the Mescalero enterprise one of the most diversified tribal tourism economies in the country. The resort attracts visitors from throughout Texas and New Mexico who come primarily for the mountain scenery and outdoor recreation but stay for the casino and hotel.
Gaming & Hotel
1,000+ slot machines and 25+ table games. The 273-room hotel overlooks Lake Mescalero with mountain views from most rooms. Links at Sierra Blanca championship golf course adds a major recreational amenity. The resort's elevation (~6,900 feet) provides a genuinely cool summer climate relative to Albuquerque or the Texas lowlands.
Getting There
Located at 287 Carrizo Canyon Rd, Mescalero, NM 88340 — near Ruidoso, approximately 200 miles south of Albuquerque via US-54 and NM-70. Free self-parking available.
