Overview

Mohegan Sun is operated by the Mohegan Tribe and is one of the largest and most celebrated casino resorts in the United States. Located in Uncasville, Connecticut — just 12 miles from Foxwoods — Mohegan Sun has established itself as the Foxwoods competitor that in many respects has surpassed its neighbor in entertainment appeal and architectural ambition. Opened in 1996, Mohegan Sun was conceived and designed from the start as an experiential destination rather than simply a gaming floor with hotel rooms attached.

The Mohegan people have lived in the Thames River Valley of southeastern Connecticut for thousands of years, and their federal recognition in 1994 enabled the casino enterprise that has since expanded to include Mohegan Sun Pocono in Pennsylvania and management agreements with tribal casinos internationally.
