About MotorCity Casino Hotel
Overview
MotorCity Casino Hotel is owned by Marian Ilitch (widow of Little Caesars founder Mike Ilitch) and operated by Detroit Entertainment LLC, making it the only independently owned casino in Detroit's three-property commercial casino market. The property opened in a temporary location in 1999 and moved into its permanent facility in 2007, featuring a design aesthetic that celebrates Detroit's automotive heritage — the "Motor City" branding connecting directly to the city's identity.
MotorCity is particularly celebrated for its entertainment programming — Sound Board, the property's 2,800-seat concert venue, is one of Detroit's most active mid-size music venues and regularly books nationally touring artists. The Ilitch family's deep roots in Detroit's entertainment ecosystem (they also own the Detroit Red Wings and Tigers) give MotorCity advantages in entertainment booking that the other Detroit casinos cannot easily replicate.
