About Mountaineer Casino Racetrack & Resort

Overview

Mountaineer Casino Racetrack & Resort is one of West Virginia's original gaming destinations, located in Nitro (New Cumberland) on the Ohio River in the Northern Panhandle. The property is operated by Century Casinos, which acquired it in 2019. Mountaineer was among the first West Virginia properties to receive a gaming license in 1994 and has grown from a horse racing and slots facility into a full-scale resort with hotel, golf, and comprehensive gaming. The Ohio River location provides a scenic setting, and the property serves the Weirton and Steubenville OH market areas.

Mountaineer's horse racing history predates gaming — the racetrack opened in 1951 — and the property continues to host Thoroughbred racing. The casino's remote Northern Panhandle location, sandwiched between Pittsburgh-area Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio, gives it a distinct regional market away from the Charleston and Eastern Panhandle population centers.

Gaming, Racing & Hotel

1,600+ slot machines and 50+ live table games. Live Thoroughbred horse racing on the historic track. A full hotel and golf course complete the resort amenities. Sports betting is available.
