Resorts World Catskills

Overview

Resorts World Catskills is operated by Genting Americas in Thompson (Sullivan County) — in the historic Catskill Mountains resort region that was once America's most famous summer vacation destination ("the Borscht Belt"). The property opened in February 2018 as the fourth and largest of New York State's commercial casino licenses, and represents a major component of the long-planned Monticello Gaming complex that Genting has been developing in Sullivan County for years.

The Catskills historically attracted millions of Jewish, Irish, and Italian summer vacationers from New York City from the 1920s through the 1970s before declining dramatically as affordable air travel made Florida and the Caribbean accessible. Resorts World Catskills is part of a broader effort to revive the region's hospitality economy, joined by other nearby developments including the MSG Sphere-area discussions and Woodbury Common luxury outlet expansion.
