SkyCity Auckland

SkyCity Auckland is New Zealand's premier gaming and entertainment destination, a sprawling multi-level complex at the base of the Sky Tower — the 328-metre observation and communications tower that is the most recognisable landmark in New Zealand's largest city. Opened in 1996, SkyCity has grown from a single casino floor into a full-scale entertainment precinct that includes two hotels (the Grand Hotel and SkyCity Hotel), more than 40 restaurants and bars, a theatre hosting Broadway touring productions, and an adjoining international convention centre.

The casino itself is the largest in the southern hemisphere by gaming positions: approximately 1,600 electronic gaming machines and 130 table games including roulette, blackjack, baccarat, and a dedicated poker room. SkyCity Auckland operates under a special licence agreement with the New Zealand government that gives it exclusive casino rights in Auckland in exchange for investment commitments — including the NZ International Convention Centre, which opened in 2024 after a fire-related delay.

Auckland's position as New Zealand's gateway city — 75% of international arrivals enter through Auckland Airport — gives SkyCity a constant flow of international visitors alongside its substantial Auckland metropolitan customer base. The precinct has become the gravitational centre of central Auckland nightlife and one of the busiest entertainment addresses in Australasia, with the Sky Tower bungee jump and high-wire walk adding adventure tourism to the mix.
