Overview

Spirit Mountain Casino is operated by the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and is Oregon's largest casino and the primary gaming destination for the Portland metropolitan area. Located 65 miles southwest of Portland via OR-18 in the Grand Ronde Valley — in the foothills of the Oregon Coast Range between the Willamette Valley and the Pacific Coast — the casino attracts approximately 3 million visitors annually and is consistently Oregon's highest-revenue gaming facility.

The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde are a confederation of 27 originally distinct tribal groups from the western Oregon region — peoples speaking different languages and representing different cultural traditions who were consolidated on the Grand Ronde Reservation by the US government in 1856. After termination of federal recognition in 1954 and a decades-long struggle for restoration, the Confederated Tribes were re-recognized by Congress in 1983. Casino revenue has been central to the tribe's cultural and community revitalization since the late 1990s.

Spirit Mountain Community Fund, funded by casino profits, has distributed more than $118 million to Northwest charitable organizations — making the Grand Ronde casino enterprise one of the most generous philanthropic contributors in Oregon's nonprofit sector.
