Wrest Point holds the distinction of being the first legal casino in Australia, opening its doors on 10 February 1973 after a 1968 referendum gave Tasmanians the choice. The property occupies a spectacular peninsular setting on the Sandy Bay foreshore, and its 17-storey circular tower — still a defining element of Hobart's skyline — was the tallest building in the city for many years.
